Don’t Get PSS’D, Get RSS’D

Amy Gahran wrote a good piece on the difference between online newsletters and RSS webfeeds and why RSS beats the newsletters out hands down.

After a few weeks now of using Sharpreader I admit I am hooked. It allows me to choose what blogs I want to get info from and allows me to unspecific - realtime - anytime. Best of all, they never know I subscribed to their site! So they can never sell, rent, or swap my email address or other info.

In the next decade, the technologies that will do the best will be the ones that give the individual greater control over the forces that affect them. Look at today - iPod’s are all the rage and they allow you to control what you want to hear…Tivo allows you to skip past the parts of shows you don’t want to watch…My Yahoo! allows you to set up what news sources you want to pop up on the main My Yahoo! screen…RSS allows you to select what you want to subscribe to and unsubscribe to in an ad-free environment without having your info shared or sold.

I technology.
