Knowing You’re Healthy

» by Justin in: My Life

One of the falls at Buttermilk Falls in Ithaca, NY - So peacefulI haven’t had health insurance for almost a year now. Even when I did I never went to see a doctor - I didn’t have a reason to.

I’m the kind of person who HATES taking any sort of medication or pills. I will only if I ABSOLUTELY have to. And I mean ABSOLUTELY - head pounding - can’t concentrate - going into some sort of arrest - you get the point…

Well, after 2 years of not going to the doctor and with grad school almost over (and therefore the discounted campus doctor costs) I decided I wanted and needed to get a full physical.

This was last week. I went in, had the physical and was told I was in great health. The next day I went in for my blood tests ($250! - without insurance they are SO EXPENSIVE).

I went back today to get my blood work results - if you have a HIV test you have to go back in no matter what - and the doctor told me my blood work results were great. My blood count, cholesterol, HIV results, everything was perfect.

Many of you out there know the feeling of waiting for blood work to come back, especially HIV test results. Even when you know there is no possible way things could be bad you still have that little bit of nervousness in the pit of your stomach.

Knowing you’re healthy - actually in great health - is a good thing.

Just a quick update on my big surprise - I have made significant progress on my plans. I plan on letting my parents in on the big secret over turkey this week. I will start posting a little bit about it soon - but not too much.

I am planning to announce my plans at my graduation party (date and guest list yet to be determined) and then blog the hell out of it right after.

I AM SO EXCITED. For the first time in as far as I can remember I feel energized, alive, and in control. Again, it’s a good thing.

So stay tuned - I think you will like this…

HAHA! Thanks Scudder. It’s a picture I took at Buttermilk Falls in Ithaca, NY. The pic seemed peaceful to me though some might see it and think ribcage!

Hmmm … what could this surprise be? Getting married? Running for President or other public office (I’ll vote for you; hell, I’ll even work on your campaign)? Beginning a new career as a porn star (I could support that too LOL)? What could it be?

Whatever it is - good luck!

WOW I thought that I was the only person in the USA that does not take pills for a headach or just to be on a drug. I do not like taking meds.

I am done in mid-December and plan to have the party sometime around there.

    Not porn - go-go is a no-go - not marriage - not political :)

Yeah, I know what it’s like to wait anxiously for HIV test results. Even though I always feel very certain that I’m negative, ever since my best friend tested positive about two years ago, I still get anxious.

I can’t wait to hear about your surprise. I can’t imagine what it is. Good luck wit all ‘dat … and happy Thanksgiving!!!!

Bravo for getting your HIV test… I wish more people would test regularly. It would make my job a little bit easier!

Thanks Duane! I love your blog but I couldn’t comment on it for some reason - the page just seemed like it was loading forever without doing anything! :(
I’ll be back again, of course!
