My mom got remarried a few years ago. Its was her third time.
I would totally make fun of her but my aunt Jo-Anne has been down the aisle five times now which trumps my mom. Plus my aunt Jo-Anne claims to be part of the religous right - which I think is totally hypocritical after five marriages - so she ends up being an easier target.
ANYWAY. . .when my mom got remarried I got a ‘new dad’. It was a little strange at first - I never really had a DAD - plus I was in my twenties calling someone I hardly knew ‘dad’.
Well, over time i’ve gotten to know him. He has been the best thing that has happened to my family in years. It was like he was a puzzle piece that just fit right in.
Now, he’s not new anymore. But I can tell you I am really happy he’s part of our family and i’m really proud to call him dad.
I’ve got two weeks of grad school left - he sent me flowers yesterday with a note saying that he’s proud of me. What a guy!
And yes, it was the first time I got flowers and didn’t put out. Shut it!

That’s reall cool Justin! And congrats on the two weeks left!
I was lucky to meet Al about six hours before Justin did. Justin was at Ithaca College and his Mom, Al, and I drove up to visit him. A five hour car ride is a real great way to decide whether you like a person or not. Al is the greatest!! He was nervous to meet Justin for the first time and he was worried Justin wouldn’t like him. Turns out he didn’t have to worry. Al is the kind of guy who will do anything for those he loves and so I’m happy that Jackie found someone to make her happy. It was seriously about time!! Everytime I walk into Jackie and Al’s I know to expect a great big bear hug from Al. I cannot wait to see them both at Christmas!!!! Justin - nice flowers!
Thanks for stopping by Darien! And thanks for the comment!
Yes, Shauna, you met him first. If I remember correctly they got you up at the butt crack of dawn and then you slept for half of the trip!
So you only really knew him for like 2.5 hours more than I did.
*sticking tongue out*
“and i’m really proud to call him dad”.
That pretty much says it all, doesn’t it.
That is so super sweet.
That makes me think of that movie Death to Smoochy; there is a part where Ed Norton sings a song called, “my stepdad’s not mean, he’s just adjusting”. LOL!
I’ve never seen that movie. That’s the one with Robin Williams, right?
