I decided to take one of my comments on a previous post and turn it into a post of its own. It clarifies a little more of the business - I hope it helps with some of the questions out there! Let me know what other questions you have!! ![]()
The majority of revenue for my business will come from advertising, some from retail, some from consulting, and some from support and other sources.
Advertising: Using Google’s adsense, Blogads, and affiliate programs (like Amazon) as people come to the site and click on ads they drive up the numbers – both site traffic and click through rates. As those numbers go up, the number of advertisers goes up and the average cost per ad goes up.
As an example, the blogger who runs the very popular website “The Daily Kos” gets $5,000 a week for ONE AD in the premium spot of his website. Now I just need to start pulling in numbers like his and I’ll be all set!
And I truly believe once this trip starts I will meet and exceed his numbers.
Retail: Of course, I’ll be selling t-shirts and the like. Why not! I’ve got me a cute logo
hahaha
Beyond the generic, I plan on obtaining (either through buying or being given) unique items from around the country. For example, there is a little place in Bethlehem, PA that has these amazing hand blown glass xmas ornaments- each one is one of a kind. Say I meet with the owner of the store, do an interview about how they are made, and then get 10 of those ornaments given to me to sell on my site. I sell them all - keep the profit - and in turn provide ad space and/or list them in my video directory of must sees while in PA.
Acting as a broker for these stores is actually something I am looking into, but I am making sure it won’t complicate the trip too much. My end goal is to stay afloat, not become a billionaire!
Consulting: I have extensive technology experience and have been an independent technology consultant for years. Now I have my BA in theoretical and MA in practical politics. With my new formal education I can bring political expertise to that technical skill and provide valuable and needed services to candidates across the country. I could make a career doing this alone but instead choose to make this a piece of what MeetJustin can offer communities.
Support/Other: Last but not least I will be getting revenue from people who just want me to keep doing what I’m doing. People who believe in my mission and vision and who want to help start something unique and grassroots flourish into something really big. I have already gotten a bunch of revenue this way – which surprised and touched me – and I hope this trend will continue as the trip starts and people really start understanding what I am trying to do here.
I really do feel this is my way to take everything I have learned and use it to help change the world. I want to show the world itself – make us all take a real hard look at our respective realities – and help to bridge the gap between who we are, who we think we are, and who others think we are.
For example I am gay, have always known, and have never thought I was bad or gross or wrong for being who I am. However, sometimes I get insecure about being gay in public or talking to certain people about gay related issues. Those people may perceive my behavior as proof that deep down I am ashamed of being gay. In reality, I am just looking out for my own safety.
Where is the forum to talk about something like this? Where can you find resources to really get into the minds of all sides of this scenario so you can get to a better understanding for yourself? At MeetJustin you won’t find regurgitated news items of the day – you’ll find unfiltered and raw interviews, writings, and images whose goal will be to help us all better understand each other.
It may seem very abstract but rest assured – I have spent my life taking my abstract ideas and making them concrete realities. Stick with me and I assure you we’ll have fun and learn a lot – together.
Especially when I’m interviewing Bill Gates and the founders of Google
HAHA Who can set that up for me?! It’ll be a while before I get to CA…!

Justin, making more sense by the minute! Good clarification.
Glad to see the consulting. Didn’t remember that from the video or email. I was worried that you had all that political education and wouldn’t use it
Timetable? The reason I ask is trying to figure out when the site will be ready for increased traffic. If the site’s not ready, people will come one time and probably not return. Return visitors are very important (think the “Daily Kos”). There has to be something more than a pretty face to get them to return (did I say that? LOL - actually, Brat Boy does a pretty good job of doing just that:)). That “something” is the content - the heart of your sites. I think you know what I mean.
Like the old Navy ad said, “It’s not a job, it’s an adventure!”.
