Jeff Gannon has become a very controversial figure in the media and in some ways the American political landscape.
From 2003 to 2005 Jeff worked as a White House reporter where he attended the daily press briefings. He has been to four press conferences held by the President of the United States.
It was at one of these press conferences that Jeff asked President Bush the infamous question, “how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?” Jeff was speaking in regards to the President working with Senate Democrats.
That question sent the media, and eventually the Congress, on a hunt to find out who Jeff Gannon really was.
As Jeff had said to me before the interview - it was the first time Congress had investigated a journalist since the days of McCarthy.
If you want to read more about the situation you can click here, here, or here. There are many more stories out there - just google “Jeff Gannon.”
While working at Window-Media/The Washington Blade - the gay newspaper in D.C. - I came across Jeff’s column. I thought he would be a fascinating person to interview seeing as he is a very conservative writer who many claimed to be “in the pocket of the White House” and yet he was writing for a gay paper.
And it was a great interview! Granted, we didn’t agree on a lot but the dialogue was open - there was no screaming match - and we both made points I think stuck with one another.
In this part of the interview Jeff talks about writing and how he started, his role in the media, his belief on how the media has become politicized, and what he’s working on right now.
There’s more to come tomorrow! I ask Jeff about his sexuality and how it affects his writing and we discuss homosexuality and religion, the gay movement, and much more! It’s a can’t miss for sure!
