Episcopal Bishop V. Gene Robinson at the LCR Convention

» by Justin in: Gay

According to wiki:

The Rt. Rev. Vicki Imogene “Gene” Robinson (born May 29, 1947) is the ninth bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church in the United States of America

He’s HILARIOUS! It’s refreshing after the last speaker ;)
Robinson is talking about how being religious and being are two things that don’t need to be at odds with each other. That the scripture can be interpreted two ways - not only the one way we hear from the fundamentalist right.

He said that the issue of gay adoption troubles him. Because if you scratch the surface of the issue, underlying is a sentiment that gay people are a threat to children. And that is wrong. And it needs to be addressed. And gay people need to bring this to light - to press this - and respond to it.

Very true, and very powerful. I hadn’t thought about the issue in these terms before.
Robinson just admitted he was recently in an alcohol treatment program and said that he found it to be a blessing. Through that he saw that alcholism is a true threat to marriage, not gay people.

He just asked we hold our friends and family accountable. Those that will be there for you in private but won’t stand up for you in public makes their private sentiments much less meaningful.

Again, very true. And very powerful.

OMG - He just used the word “podunk” - I love that word! I’m a fan now. :) Still not drinking the Jesus juice, but I’m a fan.

Out of nowhere - for no reason - the lights just dimmed like we were at the movies. Someone probably hit the light switch. He handled it by saying “I get the point” HAHAHA. I told you - he’s hilarious.

This was one of my most favorite speeches of the day thus far. Hopefully I will get to interview him at some point on my trip - I think that would be amazing.

I am a conservative Episcopalian, and I am sick and tired of all the gay and lesbian community trying to wreck my Church. Please believe me,I truely wish no harm apon anyone who is homosexual, but it is a “SIN”,and thus cannot be accepted as normal under any conditions by any Christian Church.I don’t care anymore if this hurts you,or if it keeps you down,or if it is harrassment……YOU ARE WRONG! PERIOD.

Face it,own up to it,you will never ever win this fight.God is on our side, the side of those who are true to Him,and try to repent of our sins instead of flaunting them in everybodys face. You will never change the fact that marriage is set by God to be between a “man and a woman”,and no sex outside of that. You will never have children, nor can you adopt,it will never be accepted by all society….I don’t care how many movies you make about it.

I beg you all…cut your loses and please stop.

Whoa buddy - hold your horses there sister - it seems that you may only know of what a little sliver of your religious peeps are doing.

    Let me enlighten you:

I was married to my wife (I’m a woman too - gasp!) last August at an Episcopalian church. Hm. They didn’t seem to mind at all. As a matter of fact, they embraced us.

I wonder who will be on the right side of history in this fight…

I’ll think of you when my partner and I make Justin an uncle.

I’m a gay Anglican, and a member of the Diocese of New Westminster, and our bishop (Michael Ingham) is infamous for opening up the issue of the blessing of same sex unions.

To me, our God is a god of love. Homosexual acts are no more, or no-less, sinful than heterosexual sex acts…..It’s just the way it’s done, and how it’s done that could be wrong.

Also, we Christians should be less judgmental and develop a better social conscience. Our religious tradition did a lot of damage when its missionaries abused their authority with the native peoples throughout the world….Our religious tradition did a lot of harm to many little children….Our tradition is doing a lot of harm by condemning people when Jesus himself condemned very few, if anyone!

…Look at the Da Vinci Code paranoia….Conservative Christians (of whatever denomination) are entitled to their opinions….But we must never give up the right to openly question traditional beliefs…

…Absolute condemnation of homosexuality as sinful is, IMHO, a worse sin in itself.
