Jennifer Chrisler and Jesse Levey from the LCR Convention

» by Justin in: Gay

Jennifer Chrisler is the Executive Director of the Family Pride Coalition. They were the ones responsible for the gay presence at the White House’s annual Easter Egg Roll.

Wow - she is amazing. And it’s not because she’s from Massachusetts, my home state. ;)
Because of the partisan divide on the issue of gay adoption she thinks it will be the new gay marriage for the 2008 election cycle. That’s scary. Not just because we could see 16 states impliment legislative bans on gay adoption, but also because another gay issue will be politicized and religiousized (yes, I made up a word) and not addressed in a calm, logical, and respectful manner.

Her advice - talk about your gay family. Show people that gay parents are integrated in our society and that protecting children and providing them strong families should be the issue - not whether their parents are gay or straight.

What a great speech. I wish to have kids someday and I really hope that 2008 won’t see that wish roadblocked.

Jesse Levey is speaking now. He is the product of two lesbian parents. And he’s a Republican. He’s a great speaker as well.I just googled him and found that he founded a group called United Leaders - their motto is “The Farm Team for Idealism” - check it out. He’s also spoken out about Republicans supporting gay marriage. He says if children of gay parents and gay parents themselves speak out, more people will be able to relate and understand the issue - it will become more personal to them.
