Mid-to-Deep Sea Fishing

Thursday, Matt (my boyfriend) and I left PTown for Brewster, MA to visit with his family. His brother Marc and his family were home from Nevada so I got to meet them as well as Matt’s sister Suzette and her kids. Whole lot of family to meet in one day!

They were all very nice and fun to be around. We had a big dinner and I made my favorite dessert ever - ghetto pumpkin pie (I’ll talk about it in a later post I promise!) - which came out ‘eh’ because I muffed up on the ingredients and doubled the salt! :( It was edible, but not as sweet as it’s supposed to be.

We then went to the general store to get ice cream and to blockbuster to get movies. We got “The Family Stone” with Sarah Jessica Parker and the new remake of “When A Stranger Calls.” I had already seen Stone, but was DYING to see Stranger. The original gave me nightmares for weeks when I was a kid - I had been craving to see the remake since I’d heard about it.

So we all watched Stone together - such a great movie - and laughed and cried, er…, teared up ;) and then went off to bed. It was an early night because we had to wake up at 6am to go fishing. I never got to see my movie!!! ahhh!! LOL I swear that by the time I see the damn thing they’ll have a remake of the remake!

6am rolls around and we are up getting ready to fish. I feel weird calling it “deep sea” fishing because it wasn’t THAT far out off the coast, but I also think it sounds weird to call it “ocean” fishing. If there is a name for it, please let me know.

The past few days had been over 100 so I was a little weary it was going to be blistering out there for 4-5 hours and not much fun. It was the TOTAL opposite. It ended up being overcast and CHILLY! Go figure.

It ended up being a blast. We caught tons of fish - stripped bass and blue fish, got to see enourmous whales about 15 feet from the boat - if I would have jumped from the boat I could have landed on one…SCARY!, and we got to see how lobstering works. I got to see what a moon snail was and touch a living sand dollar. So fun!

After we got off the boat we headed back to the place where we chartered the boat and our captain fileted our fish for us! Matt and I got to take back three HUGE filets of stripped bass which I brought to my restaurant. Tim, one of the chefs there, prepared it two different ways over two nights. It was enough to feed 5 of us for two nights…impressive!

Needless to say, I pretty much passed out when I got back to PTown at 2:30pm that day. I was sitting on the side of my bed, layed back, and fell asleep with my feet on the floor. I woke up an hour later hurting! haha And of course, I had to work that night. I’m still trying to get in the swing of things today!!

Well, today and tomorrow are my days off, I’m about $50 from paying off my seasonal rental, and I’ve been asked by bestgayblogs.com for an interview for their site - if that’s not enough to get me back into the swing of things I don’t know what is!!!

I hope everyone is having a good weekend. And when are you coming down to PTown?! Carnival is right around the corner…

cute pics! it amazes me how much colder it can be off the coast up there. when i was much younger my family went whale watching up in bar harbor. now, it wasn’t scorching hot that summer, but WOW, it was FREEZING out on the water!!! we barely saw any whales, but i did enjoy seeing all the dolphin … there were tons of them.

isn’t it fulfilling (to a point) to eat something that you’ve prepared, grown, or … caught?

“when a stranger calls” reminds me of a made-for-tv lifetime movie title.

I was EXHAUSTED Charles. So tired!

Lisa - I am planning on going to Drag Kickball until I have to work. Then I’ll just have Matt take some more pictures for me! :)
It was really cold when we were moving, but not so bad when we stayed in one place and fished. It is rewarding to eat something you’ve put together somehow haha. Kinda gross too when you really think about it. It’s like…”Hi I killed you…now I’m gonna eat you!” Weird!!
