There is a great piece over at Shakespeare’s Sister about one of the hidden storylines behind this US Attorney purge.
What’s the hidden storyline? The President and his staff don’t like email.
1. President Bush does not use e-mail. Our evidence for this comes both from the president himself, as well as an exchange between George H.W. Bush, Barbara Bush and Greta Van Susteren.
2. Gonzales reportedly does not use e-mail. The evidence for this has come via reporting on the prosecutor purge and the related document dumps.
3. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, at least as of March of 2004, does not use e-mail.
4. Former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and current Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff, at least as of February of 2006, did/do not use e-mail.
Which then begs the question of whether or not
the White House has violated its mandatory record-keeping obligation under the Presidential Records Act (PRA)
It’s another great post to read today!

I may have to check the State directory to see if Rice is listed. I have never thought about it… My former boss, the head of USAID did use email. It was shocking to get an email from him, but he was using it. Not the entire administration is technologically behind.
Well, with 5 million emails now lost it will be interesting to see if they never used email or if they just PRETENDED to never use email.
