I don’t believe this. I mean, I REALLY DON’T. Do they count magazines?
WASHINGTON, May. 14 (UPI) — Two of Washington’s best-informed men confirmed it so it must be true. President Bush and his consigliere Karl Rove bet on who had read the most books in a year. Mike McConnell, the director of national intelligence, told friends Rove won with 117 books and Bush was a close second with 104 books.
This part did it for me - the pure essence of Bush’s mentality. If you aren’t winning, change the rules…
Unhappy over his loss to his close confidant, Bush asked for a recount — in words. And the president won by 1.7 percent.
I wonder if the Bible was included…

Comic books don’t count…
UPI is of course, owned by the same owner as the Washington Times. The Moonies *heart* W. It also doesn’t day anything about W having re-read the same book 104 times; it’s all about HOW you count “books”.
Aren’t comic books now considered to be “graphic novels?” I can easily see Bush reading 104 “graphic novels” about Archie, Veronica, Reggie, and Betty… Actually, he’d probably be reading “Richie Rich,” wouldn’t he?
Mark, I think you’re on to something. Our George may have spent his whole life trying to be “cool” like that Reggie. As for the item itself, I think it’s total fabrication. As far as I know, his attention span is so minuscule that I can’t see him getting through 104 comic books in a year. That would be two a week. Maybe 104 “Your Daily Horoscope”s?
Did these books have popup pictures?
