The RRD - Day 9 - Still. Going. Strong!

Yes, I know, I know. I haven’t blogged in a while - especially in the middle of giving updates on how the Ryan Reynolds Diet is working out for me.

Well, a lot has happened in my life over the past few days.

First and foremost…I FINALLY sold my Jeep. YAY! After it got broken into the second time I had it. I didn’t want to repair it, I didn’t want to have to keep moving it every week because of street cleaning, and I didn’t want to worry about gas prices whenever I wanted to actually use it. Keep in mind - it gets 19 miles per gallon…both city and highway…

Shauna and I went down to the CarMax in Maryland and I got an offer on it. It was $11,000 with the cracked windshield and the duct taped window. Now, I know I could have gotten about $13-14K in a private sale. But this is the way I looked at it - 1) CarMax would pay the rest of my loan off and take it out of the $11K (something that would be hard to do in a private sale), 2) I didn’t have to deal with crazy craigslist people, 3) everything was done instantly - I walked with a check, 4) hello - I live in a city - Zipcar.com, and 5) since I wanted it off my hands now, this was pretty much my only option.

So…POOF. No Jeep. First time since 16 I have been automobile-less. Still feels a bit weird.

The benefits are astounding - Now I have a chunk of change to pay off my credit cards (it will only put a dent, but it’s something!…), I have no more Jeep payment to make monthly, and no more insurance payment. Um, YAY!

Other than that, let’s see…Friday was work happy hour, drunkeness, and me hooking up with a guy who works for the Sierra Club. You can never say I’m not eco-friendly!

Saturday was car appraisal day, but since I forgot my paperwork I ended up having to come back on Sunday. The rest of Saturday involved walking around DC and ordering takeout with Shauna while watching a movie. Lame, but fun.

Sunday was Jeep sale day. A little sad. Drew FINALLY had a moment to spare and because I hadn’t seen him in forever I decided to drag Shauna out for “One Drink”.

You know where “One Drink” ends up going…

Drew - 5 Gimlets
Shauna - 5 assorted cocktails
Me - 6 beers

And the night still didn’t end.

From an email from Shauna the next day (she will probably kill me for this…):

So we get in the cab and head home. Upon arrival of the corner I beg/drag Justin to Wonderland because its only midnight and we should have “just one more drink”. I really hate those words. They are never true. So I was already feeling good. Continue dragging Justin to the upstairs bar where we sat at the bar.

Ordered that pink elephant beer. So now I have had wine, hard alcohol, and now ale. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Decently cute black guy at the bar. Proceed to hit on him. He’s an event coordinator at the Marriot. Lots of stuff to talk about. I impressed him with my knowledge of football, ranted about how his favorite team, the Cowboys, suck and random information gleaned for Sport Illustrated.com. Somewhere in there I got seriously fucked up. I know it was the combo of strong beer and vanilla vodka from earlier. I’m not really surprised as the bartender at Floriana’s has a serious heavy hand with the alcohol.

I just got off the phone with Justin now and yelled at him about how much I hated him. So now I remember that there was more than one beer at Wonderland. Jomo bought me another beer and a shot.

There was more, but she would REALLY KILL ME. I like life too much. And my testicles, thank you!

Needless to say, it was a fun night. And I had paced myself with light beer all night so I wasn’t nearly as trashed as Shauna.

I hit my wall on Monday around 3pm. Yikes. But I had really been wanting to hang out with my friend Sean for a while now and since he was free I decided to prolong my tiredness and go grab dinner and a movie with him after the gym. Yes, AFTER the gym.

I am really glad I met up with him - he’s such a great guy. Adorable, smart, funny, and fun to be around. :-)
With all the commotion this weekend I decided to take today as a personal day to go to the DC DMV (ugh), get my hair cut, and get a little more rested. It was a nice, nice day.

OK I’m kinda undoing this whole being rested thing by being up at 1am. I’m going to wrap this up.

The RRD - I’ve been kicking ass. Drinking light beer when I drink (which is only 1 or 2 times a week!) and sticking to the diet in every other way possible. I went to Whole Foods and picked up a bunch of different nuts, Flaxseed, protein bars, and other goodies. I’ve been eating every 2-3 hours like Ryan Reynolds says to - which has gotten easier and more fulfilling. I LOVE Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal and cooking it at work has finally become part of my routine. Now, It comes out great everytime!

As far as the gym part of life - I’ve been every day this week and (only) three days last week. I’ve run over 20 miles in these two weeks and I’m now up to 600+ situps. Close to 700 even! I’m also excited to be back up to almost 200 push ups and 65 pull ups.

YAY!

I’m starting to feel a difference in my body composition - tightness in areas I haven’t felt tight in ages. I’ve still got a ways to go before I make it to the level of the Ryan Reynolds, but I’m working on it!

Ok, so here are my most recent shots. If you click on any of them it will take you to the album with all my RRD pics…

Congrats on the past week! Sounds like you had a majorly good week all in all; one that I’m a bit envious of even.

Your workout routine is beginning to pay off as well, you are looking a lot more trim than in previous posts, especially in the upper back! I thought you were hot before, now I’m thinking I need to come up there for a visit, flirt over brunch from afar and hook up from there… you are getting hotter by the day!

Good luck with the freedom from autos and the workout routine as well!

Well, I will not say HOT, because I am your mother and that’s just gross. But, looking good!!! I do see a difference and I am very proud of you. When I stand like that my belly hits my knees and my lady lumps hit the floor, there is no hope left for me….save yourself!!

    I love you,
    Mom

Hey Justin, Chris from NY. I read how you were trying the RRD from the first day you posted. I have been dieting similarly and exercising for a couple months. When I read what you were going to do it helped me to refocus my diet and my exercise. Mainly the eating every 2-3 hours. I am eating the oatmeal every morning too. Also, I am doing more weight training than I was and it is paying off. Thanks for inspiring me further.

This serial account of the RRD reminds me of Dickens’ “Pickwick Papers”. Can’t wait for the next installment. I just love it when you say, Ryan Reynolds won’t like this. What a good read this is!
